Lunch Date Newsletter #36: Nutrition News in Bite-Size Portions

by

Pull up a chair, and unfold your napkin, it’s time for our lunch date!

Health and Nutrition News

I’m in the news! Here’s what I’m talking about:

  • Fitness Gadgets: 11 Health Gadgets Experts Wish You’d Use – Daily Burn
  • Time-Saving Tips: 12 Healthy Eating Hacks for People Who Don’t Have Time – The Active Times (My advice is on slides 11 and 12: “Embrace Shortcuts” and “Doctor Frozen Meals.”

Food, Health, & Nutrition:

  • App Helps Those With Food Allergies Traveling – FOX News // If you have food allergies, traveling abroad can be a scary prospect. AllergyFT, a new app, lets you create a profile with all of the foods you’re allergic to, and translates it into languages understood in over 50 countries. Language barrier breached!
  • This Is What’s Wrong With Foods & Drinks Marketed to Kids – Real Mom Nutrition // A juice that contains 100% of the daily recommended value of Vitamin C and shows pictures of kiwis and strawberries might look somewhat healthy. But it may not actually contain those fruits. And the first ingredient is sugar. And your kid is probably not even deficient in vitamin C (most aren’t). How do food companies market junk to kids and parents? Check out the post.
  • Does Your Lemonade Need Activated Charcoal? – The Wall Street Journal // I will start by saying if you enter “activated charcoal detox” into the leading scientific journal database, you get…nada. There’s a study that did find activated charcoal is great at reducing levels of water-soluble vitamins like Vitamin C, niacin, B6, and B12 – you know, the stuff that definitely keeps your body healthy – in a sample of apple juice. If you google it, lots of random people have lots of opinions. I pick science. Your body has a grade A detoxifying system that works 24-7. That’s one less thing to worry about, right? Annnd you’re welcome.
